Daily Skincare Routine

Our skin is the largest organ in our bodies, so it certainly deserves a lot of attention. By getting into a few good habits along with a good daily skincare routine, you will soon be able to see the benefits.

As most of you are aware we are an ESPA salon and use all of their beautiful products during our treatments. ESPA’S Tri-active formulations contain unique combinations of plant actives, marine actives and essential oils to create the most effective, natural products.

Cleanse

This step is an absolute must when it comes to looking after your skin. Even for those who go bare faced and make up free, everyday dirt, pollution and sweat can all build up on the skin throughout the day resulting in blocked pores and breakouts.

We recommend a good cleanse in the morning and a double cleanse in the evening. Make sure you choose the appropriate cleanser depending on your skin type; dry, dehydrated, oily or combination.

If you are using a water based cleanser make sure the temperature of the water isn’t too hot for the skin, as this will only dry the skin out and cause irritation. Try introducing a muslin cloth for a really deep cleanse as they have a gentle exfoliating action that helps remove impurities and leaves your skin feeling clean and smooth.

Tone

This is such an important step that we find a lot of people skip in their routine. Toning is one of the most important steps in your skincare routine and completes the cleansing process. Not only does it remove the final bits of cleanser and excess oil it also rebalances the PH levels, closes any open pores and adds a boost of hydration to the skin.

Eye Cream

Prevention is better than cure! Your eyes are the first place to show signs of ageing. The skin around your eyes is the most delicate and ages faster than the rest of your face.

By applying a good eye cream morning and evening it will revive tired and dehydrated eyes, whilst helping to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles and brighten dark circles. You don’t want to overload the eye, with cream. Simply apply a small amount on to your ring finger and pat it around orbital bone and let it absorb in.

Serum

Serums can make a huge difference to the skin. They are packed full of vitamins and antioxidants that can target a number of skin concerns from wrinkles, pigmentation and much more.

By applying serum before your moisturiser it allows the ingredients to penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin instead of the surface. We like to think of your serum as your underwear and your moisturiser as your clothes. You wouldn’t get dressed without putting on your underwear first…or maybe some would!

Moisturiser

Moisturiser is your best friend! Everyone should moisturise even those with an oily / acne prone skin. Skin that is prone to breakouts is normally lacking in hydration, causing more breakouts to happen. If your skin is excessively oily, just choose a lightweight oil free moisturiser.

Dehydrated skin shows all the lines and wrinkles, so keeping up the hydration levels will help to smooth and plump the skin.

Exfoliate

This is another important step that we find clients tend to forget about. If you are not exfoliating then you aren’t removing the dead layer of skin that is causing your skin to look dull. By missing out this process you aren’t allowing your other products to work efficiently, which means they aren’t able to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin, where your products need reach to work their magic.

On average you want to be exfoliating 1-2 times a week but for oily skin around once every 10 days.

Mask

Masks are the perfect way to target any skin concerns. It is the perfect excuse to draw a lovely hot bath, light a candle, lie back and let the mask get to work while you relax.

Treatment masks can not only be a sensory and therapeutic experience with all the beautiful aromatherapy oils, they can also help hydrate the skin, remove excess oil and extract any impurities causing blocked pores. They can also brighten the dullest of complexions, target pigmentation issues and deliver anti ageing properties to reveal a clearer, brighter and more youthful complexion.

Wipes

Put them in the bin!! First of all they are bad for the environment. Wipes tend to be harsh on the skin because they contain chemicals that strip the skin of its natural oils, altering the PH levels of your skin which can then lead to inflammation and irritation. If you are looking for a quick fix then pick up a micellar water instead!

By making sure you have all these steps covered you will be well on your way to achieving the gorgeous skin you deserve!
